Mitchell County is home to the “Mineral City of the World” and produces some of the highest quality quartz. The area has unique geographical features like the largest natural rhododendron garden on Roan Mountain. The county population as of the 2010 Census was roughly 15,500 residents. Most of the county is dry, meaning no alcohol sales, with the exceptions of Spruce Pine and areas within 1.5 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
