Ryan HeadshotI grew up across the border near Greer, SC, but my family always came up to Western North Carolina for events and to escape the summer heat. In fact, my dad owned a small business in Asheville for around a decade when I was growing up, so I have seen the area progress steadily since then. It is amazing how diverse each community is in Western North Carolina and how fun it is to explore local business, restaurants, activities (the State Theatre of NC is in Flat Rock), and all that nature has to offer in the area! We believe in this area so strongly, which is why Suzanne and I named our business LivePlayWNC.com
Although Suzanne and I graduated from the same college, we actually met through a mutual friend in Atlanta, Georgia a few years later. Since then we have lived up and down the East Coast, added two kids to the mix, and have been fortunate enough to travel to many other wonderful places around the world. The truth is few, if any, can match up to everything that makes Western North Carolina so great. It is why we chose to live here!
I am looking forward to the opportunity to work for you in finding your own slice of these mountains!

Favorite Things
  • Restaurant in WNC
This is a tough one as there are too many to choose from and so many I have yet to visit. So far, I am enjoying Shine in Hendersonville that serves up slushie-style cocktails. Biscuit Head in Asheville and Arden is a go to breakfast place.
  • Local Coffee Shop
It’s all about finding a good neighborhood spot. For me that’s Appalachian Coffee in Laurel Park. Great coffee, nice selection of beer and wine, and solid Wi-Fi.
  • Spot in WNC
Sitting in front of the fire at The Grove Park Inn in Asheville on a cold day is a great way to pass some time. As for nature, any trail that leads to a view from the peak is great and there are plenty to choose from in Western North Carolina.
  • Music Act
My tastes are eclectic, from pop to modern country to singer/songwriter. In the past few years I have been enjoying Mumford and Sons. The best live act that I have seen was U2.
  • Sporting Team
I always pull for my alma mater, the Clemson Tigers. Go Tigers!
College football and basketball are the only sports I follow. I enjoy watching any ACC and SEC football game in the fall. Come March, I get dialed into March Madness and pull for my UNC Tarheels basketball team. I’ve been a fan since the beginning of the Dean Smith-era.
  • Vacation
First, let’s remember that Western North Carolina is an incredible place for a staycation. There are lots of great places around the world that I have been fortunate enough to see. Tops on my list so far is pristine New Zealand which I like to describe as the best of the 50 States crammed onto two islands that you can mostly see within a few weeks.
